Cannabigerol is a non psychoactive Cannabinoid found in high concentrations in industrial hemp.
It is the precursor chemical to THC, CBD, and CBC. The ratio at which CBG is converted to these Cannabinoids is mainly down to genetics, while Industrial hemp is bred to not convert the chemical at all.
Although CBG binds with the CB2 receptor in the body, more research is needed to establish what effect this has. It binds to several receptors outside of the Endocannabinoid system, and has a small effect on CB1 receptors, though this is largely unknown also. It has been observed to lower intra–ocular pressure suggesting it may be useful in treating Glaucoma. Its affects on receptors outside of the ECS may also be useful in reducing anxiety.
